School of Archaeology and Tourism organized a dialogue seminar delivered by the head of the Tourism and Heritage Committee in the Senate, Engineer Abdul Hakim Al-Hindi

Under the patronage of the University of Jordan's President, His Excellency Professor Dr. Nathir Obeidat, School of Archaeology and Tourism organized a dialogue seminar delivered by the head of the Tourism and Heritage Committee in the Senate, Engineer Abdul Hakim Al-Hindi.​

Obeidat stated that the University of Jordan always seeks to create opportunities for direct communication between professors and students in all sectors. Hence, today's meeting was held to engage in direct dialogue and identify what the tourism sector needs in terms of factors for development. It aims to equip students with knowledge and skills to enter this important and vital sector efficiently, emphasizing the competence of Jordanians working in tourism abroad. He affirmed that the University of Jordan is diligently working on curriculum plans supported by courses that provide students with advanced communication skills, placing them at the forefront of candidates for suitable jobs.

Al-Hindi confirmed that tourism in Jordan constitutes a fundamental contributor to the national economy. The tourism revenues for 2021 reached 1.8 billion and doubled in 2022 to reach 4 billion. It was expected to reach 5 billion in 2023, indicating a noticeable and clear upward trend in the tourism sector. He acknowledged the royal directives and the continuous follow-up of His Majesty King Abdullah II and his Crown Prince, Prince Hussein bin Abdullah, who play a significant role in the current achievements.

He highlighted the future role of students in representing the tourism sector positively, urging them to be ambassadors for their country in neighboring countries. He stressed the need to overcome challenges and turn them into promising opportunities, believing that tourism globally is an everlasting resource and a major contributor to the Jordanian economy.

In turn, the Dean of School of Archaeology and Tourism, Prof. Dr. Ziad Al-Rawadiah, mentioned that the college has set a plan for a major launch, expanding programs such as the Bachelor's program in Hospitality Management and the Master's program in Sustainable Tourism and Hospitality Management. The School is also developing a professional diploma program in tourist guiding techniques in partnership with the Faculty of Foreign Languages to address current challenges in tourist guide training programs, among other initiatives planned for the next two years.

The meeting began with the reading of Al-Fatiha for the souls of our martyrs in Palestine and the brave Arab army members who sacrificed their lives for their country's security and stability.

At the end of the seminar, a comprehensive discussion took place where Al-Hindi answered the attendees' questions. Members of the Tourism and Heritage Committee in the Senate also visited the museums of archaeology and folk heritage at the University.
