Panel Discussion on "Preservation of Cultural Heritage" in Celebration of World Heritage Day

Today, Tuesday, April 19, 2022, the Department of culture​ Resources Management and Conservation held a panel discussion titled "Preservation of Cultural Heritage" in celebration of World Heritage Day, which falls on April 18th of every year. The event was sponsored by the Dean of the College, Dr. Mahmoud Arainat, and led by Dr. Ruba Saiesa, Head of the Department, and coordinated by Hana Bani Ata, Quality and Development Liaison Officer and Supervisor of Archaeological Excavations, with the presence of several faculty, administrative staff, and dear students.

The session included three main topics discussing important issues related to the preservation of Jordanian cultural heritage.

The first topic addressed the preservation of underwater cultural heritage in Jordan, presented by Dr. Sawsan Al-Fakheri, an expert in underwater heritage. She focused on the discovery and preservation methods of underwater heritage, citing the Islamic Ayla site located in the Gulf of Aqaba as one of the most important underwater heritage sites in Jordan.

The second topic discussed the impact of climate change on cultural heritage, presented by Engineer Lena Abu Saleem, Director of the Projects Unit in Downtown Salt. She showcased several sites that have been damaged due to climate change, as they are located in open environments exposed to natural and human-induced factors, and proposed solutions to address such challenges.

The third topic addressed museums and volunteer work, presented by Ms. Rasha Dabbaneh, Deputy Chair of the Jordanian Museums Association. She discussed how to join volunteer work in museums, its importance, and its impact on university students and local community members.

The panel discussions were moderated by Professor Dr. Nizar Al-Tarshan from the Department of Archaeology, Engineer Bushra Nbass from the Department of Antiquities - World Heritage Sites Section, and Dr. Sawsan Al-Fakheri.

At the end of the sessions, Dr. Saiesa, presented the College's shield of appreciation to the speakers for their valuable contributions to providing information to the students.
