Participating in a training program for the maintenance and restoration of antiquities in Italy.

A delegation from the Department of Cultural Resources Management and Conservation participated in a training program for the maintenance and restoration of antiquities in Italy.

The delegation from the University of Jordan participated in the training program on the maintenance and restoration of antiquities held in the city of Turin, Italy. The delegation included the Director of the Hamdi Mango Center for Scientific Research, Dr. Abeer Al-Bawab, the Head of the Department of Heritage Resource Management and Conservation, Dr. Ramadan Abdullah, three master's students in chemistry, and three undergraduate students in the Department of Heritage Resource Management and Conservation. The program took place from November 12, 2012, to November 17, 2012, as part of the activities of the "JOCHERA - Jordan Conservation of Cultural Heritage in ERA" project supported by the European Union and hosted at the Hamdi Mango Center for Scientific Research at the University of Jordan.

The new training program focused on the preservation of cultural heritage using modern scientific techniques to diagnose and study the deterioration of archaeological materials. It also covered the development and production of new materials for the maintenance and preservation of organic and inorganic archaeological materials and building materials of archaeological sites. Additionally, the delegation was introduced to the latest preventive maintenance techniques used in museums, using scientific devices developed at the laboratories of the Polytechnic University of Turin, Italy. The program included field visits to various archaeological sites undergoing restoration and maintenance operations, as well as several museums of antiquities and heritage in Italy.
