School's celebration on the occasion of World Heritage Day under the title: Jordanian Heritage Day

School of Archaeology and Tourism at the University of Jordan, in collaboration with the Neshama Al-Watan Foundation, held a celebration on the occasion of the International Museum Day, under the theme "Museums and the Local Community." The event was sponsored by the University President, Professor Abdul Karim Al-Qudah.

In his speech, Al-Qudah praised the role of the School in emphasizing the importance of museums as scientific and cultural centers, contributing to the dissemination of knowledge and sciences, and introducing the public to cultural heritage and linking it to the local community.

Al-Qudah emphasized the necessity of integrating institutional and academic efforts, and providing all scientific, research, and cultural requirements that contribute to building the knowledge of students and researchers, and enhance awareness of the importance of museums and their role in providing meaningful and valuable experiences for visitors.

On her part, the Dean of the School, Dr. Nada Al-Rawabdeh, praised the role of the university in implementing practical aspects and training for students through the establishment of archaeological and folk heritage museums, equipped with educational and research laboratories and exhibition halls.

Participants in the celebration, held via video conferencing (Zoom), addressed important topics, such as the role of museums in community development, museum exhibitions and their role in attracting audiences, the importance of archaeological and heritage collections in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the role of museums in education and their importance in promoting tourism awareness.

The celebration included clips and visual materials about Jordanian heritage and its museums, as well as the heritage and historical legacies that reflect the cultural and civilizational diversity of the deserts, rural areas, and cities in Jordan.

It is worth mentioning that the celebration of the International Museum Day dates back to the International Council of Museums, where this event is considered an opportunity to celebrate the importance of museums and their cultural and humanitarian role.
