Dear visitors of the website of School of Archaeology and Tourism at the University of Jordan,
Our dear students, Our valued partners in success,
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the School of Archaeology and Tourism at the University of Jordan — this distinguished academic institution that brings together the authenticity of the past and the aspirations of the future. This is a school that beats with the spirit of Jordan and carries a national mission grounded in the firm foundations of our deep-rooted history, drawing inspiration from the richness of our heritage, which forms the unique identity and character of our beloved homeland.
Here, at the University of Jordan — a longstanding inspiration of knowledge and a stronghold of academic excellence that continues to advance in global rankings — we believe that Jordan's heritage is not just a collection of silent archaeological sites, but a living treasure that breathes the legacy of ancient civilizations. Jordan, with its blessed soil, tells an uninterrupted human story — from the eternal ruins of Petra to the Roman streets of Jerash, from the Umayyad desert palaces to the proud fortresses of Al_Karak. Every stone in this country tells a story; every monument hides secrets of great civilizations.
Yet our heritage is not limited to tangible archaeological sites. It extends to our intangible cultural heritage that manifests across the diverse landscapes of Jordan — our folk tales rich with wisdom, our proverbs passed down through generations, our traditional cuisine that reflects our identity — all forming a cultural treasure that weaves together the full fabric of our national character.
From this foundation, our school is shaped as an integrated tapestry of heritage and modernity, where the sciences of archaeology and cultural heritage preservation meet the beauty of tourism and the spirit of authentic hospitality. The Department of Archaeology, as the oldest in the school, continues its mission of research and exploration into the layers of Jordan's history and its successive civilizations. The Department of CRM guides our students in preserving and restoring this rich legacy. The Department of Tourism Management transforms our heritage into a unique and immersive experience for visitors, while the Department of Hospitality — through its two programs in Hospitality and Event Management — breathes the genuine spirit of Jordanian generosity into the visitor's journey, making Jordan a distinctive cultural and touristic destination.
This unique integration among our disciplines does more than create academic synergy; it shapes a new vision for sustainable development, where our heritage becomes an economic, cultural, and social resource that enriches our country and elevates its standing on the global map. We believe that tourism is not merely travel — it is a cultural dialogue among nations. Archaeology is not merely silent stones — it is a living testimony to the legacy of our people and the authenticity of our identity.
Because our students are at the heart of our mission and the focus of all our efforts, we aim to develop their personalities in a holistic manner — not only by equipping them with theoretical knowledge, but also by arming them with the tools of the modern world. Through hands-on training at archaeological sites and in leading tourism and hospitality institutions, mastery of professional communication skills — in both Arabic and other global languages — and the cultivation of soft skills such as teamwork, leadership, service, and intercultural communication, we aim to prepare a generation capable of leading the archaeology and tourism sectors with confidence.
To achieve this vision, our school is committed to fostering a culture of scientific research among our academic staff and encouraging pioneering projects that enrich global knowledge in archaeology, heritage, and sustainable tourism. We actively seek collaboration with both public and private sectors — including the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Jordan Tourism Board, tourism associations, travel agencies, hotels, and more — as well as with academic and research institutions worldwide. This network of partnerships is more than mere cooperation — it is a strategic alliance to serve our nation and elevate the fields of archaeology and tourism to international standards.
At the School of Archaeology and Tourism at the University of Jordan, and under the guidance of our forward-thinking university leadership that embraces global educational trends and the latest developments, we are committed to continuous excellence. We will remain protectors of heritage, builders of the future, and creators of development opportunities. We invite all of you — students, partners, and those passionate about heritage — to join us on this journey: a journey of discovery and distinction, of preserving our identity and building our future.
Therefore, I say to our dear students: You are our true wealth. Be the builders of tomorrow — sincere in your work, equipped with knowledge and learning, open to the world, yet deeply rooted in your identity. And to our partners from government institutions, the private sector, and international organizations: You are our companions on this journey. Let us work together, collaborate, contribute to heritage and tourism development projects, expand horizons for students, and raise the ceiling of ambition.
