Department of Archaeology seeks to provide distinguished educational programs
at the level of bachelor and master's degrees according to the latest
international academic standards. The department also focuses on field training
programs to provide the graduates with the necessary skills to enter the
professional and academic fields after graduation

Practical and field training - Field Training Description, timing, and credit hours Description: students are trained on field archaeologies against learning the theoretical ones in books and other courses. An archaeological site is selected for practical training, and students are trained in different excavation methods and how to use excavation tools and the division of the site into squares and the distribution of students on them in addition to learning the method of scientific registration of the archaeological findings as well as training them in the field of painting and field photography, and introducing them to how the archaeological finds are dated according to chronological or historical chronology. Intended learning outcomes
Student by
the end of this program shall be able to: 1. Demonstrates a deep understanding of theoretical
concepts in the field of Archaeology. 2. Know the ages periods that Jordan has passed through
the ages and know the archaeological sites that represent the different ages in
Jordan through the archaeological artefacts and demonstrating the openness to
other civilizations in a positive way. 3. The student's
ability to understand the importance of Jordan's geographical location and its
role in the development of previous civilizations. 4. Ability to devise relationships between archaeological
sites dating back to the same period of time and Distinguish between the
importance of archaeological sites within the geographical area. 5. Write research papers related to the topic of
specialization methodologically, in addition to Ability to write daily and
weekly reports related to archaeological excavations, and interpretation and
analysis of some discovered archaeological phenomena and relate them. 6. The student should be able to participate in
archaeological works in the field and employ the results of exploration works
to serve the institutions related to archaeology and tourism institutions. In
addition to employing it in raising archaeological awareness among the members
of the community and its reflection on the national economy. 7. Practise scientific honesty during field work in terms
of reporting archaeological finds, in addition to the scientific honesty in the
interpretation and working in a team spirit in order to rebuild the past in a
correct scientific way. 8. The ability to re-analyse, install and visualize some
of the missing parts, both in architecture from the remnants of buildings or in
pottery through pottery fragments or in frescoes and other archaeological
artefacts in order to build a conception and a societal vision bearing
political, social, artistic and historical implications for each era. 9. Discuss the importance of the cultural periods that
Jordan has experienced and its role throughout the ages in the emergence of
civilizations in the Near East. 10. Demonstrate the commitment in the following aspects
(the lifelong learning and teamwork, owning the skill of scientific research,
analysis, interpretation, verbal, logical, and mathematical processing of
information, the ability to think critically and solve problems, and uses
technology to monitor, manage, analyse and transfer information to generate

About the program and its main themes
The Department of Cultural Resources Management and Conservation was established with the establishment of the Institute of Archeology in 2008/2009. The study began in the academic year 2009/2010 for the Kingdom's need for this important specialization as a large number of archaeological sites dating back to different historical periods are subjected to damage and the threat of natural and human factors. The department aims to qualify students to work in the restoration and maintenance of transferred artifacts, as well as the management and maintenance of archaeological and cultural sites.
The department provides a bachelor's degree in the field of cultural resources management and maintenance. The department adopts interdisciplinary approach and benefits from many specializations at the university. The department focuses on the use of modern information systems, as well as the documentation, presentation, analysis, planning and management of cultural resources. Practical and applied laboratory studies as basic tools help in providing and teaching this specialization.

ـField Training
(2632462) Field Training in Archaeological Conservation
The student participates in archaeological excavations during the summer semester. They are trained on the first methods of conservation of archeology in the field and how to remove the archaeological pieces and how to pack them and transfer them to the laboratory without causing any damage to archaeological pieces. The field training includes the restoration, maintenance and restoration of the discovered archaeological buildings, the architectural, decorative elements, the mosaic floors, the means of strengthening and stabilizing them to maintain their sustainability.
The field training course is taught 18 hours per week when taught in the summer semester and 9 hours per week when taught in the first or second semester. In both cases, the total number of hours must be not be less than 144 hours according to the field and practical training instructions at the Faculty of Archeology and Tourism.
